With the of old, unmaintained and unwelcoming beach towns feeling the need to re-emerge in the tourist scene, and boost their popularity, the seaport town of Quepos is planning to remodel and expand its pier. The new pier will be a modern one with recreational and commercial areas. The project was done by several students of the architecture department from the Hispanoamericana University, and presented by the school’s director Mr. Alfredo Ramirez. As a whole, the pier will cover 623 meters, with its first stage stalling at the Marina Pez Vela and the second phase continuing up to Naomi Recreational Center.
The pier’s décor is based on the forms, shapes and colors of its natural surroundings. The project is denominated an “eco-project” given the relevance it grants nature, both as a point of inspiration and as a significant factor within its development. It aims to create a balance between the amounts of public and private spaces, such that this will not be a closed-in center, but an open one whose primary element is to seem part of everything that surrounds it, versus imposing. Its first stage is expected to be concluded in about one year, serving as the initial step to making Quepos an equivalent hotspot and addition to the neighboring Manuel Antonio area.
