News Brief on Liberia Int’l Airport’s New Terminal

An additional 30 days have been given to those enterprises interested in building and designing the new passenger terminal of the Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste. The need to give firms additional time to present their proposals was not unexpected and should not affect the project’s estimated due date, scheduled towards the end of 2009. Provided this airport receives hundreds if not thousands of tourists and businessman on a weekly basis, the opportunity of being the chosen firm for the new terminal has caught the interest of renowned firms in the airport sector. Some of the most recognized firms are: Agunsa, who was in charge of the airports in Santiago, Chile and San Andres, Colombia, and also the Houston Airport System (in charge of the Houston, Texas terminals) and the a firm in charge of several Argentinean airports. The terminal valued at $18.9 million cost, and counts with a space of 72,500 square meters, of which only 13,500 can be used for the passenger terminal, which must include common areas and space for governmental offices. This new structure will be able to hold around 1,500 passengers during its busiest hours. The remaining space is to be for parking, future expansions, incoming areas, commercial areas and restaurants. The firm that wins will present a project that has taken every detail into account, has adhered to local regulations, offers more than that which has not already been foreseen.
